Monday's Ponderings

"Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."  Genesis 4:7b
This is our memory verse for the week.  Jeff used the story of Cain and Able this morning to talk to the children about how they interact with each other.  I'm sure none of you ever have to deal with sibling rivalry. :)  This verse was spoken to Cain directly from God right before he killed his brother.  Obviously Cain allowed the sin to capture him and became a slave to it.

Even though Jeff was teaching the children, it felt like he spoke directly to me.  How often I, like Cain, have given into sin.  When I allow myself to dwell on negative thoughts.  When I give into temptation and deal harshly with the children.  When my lips utter careless words.  I could go on but don't want to air all my dirty laundry at once. :)

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."  Ephesians  6:10-18
Bailie reminded us of the above verse and how important it was to "be strong in the Lord".  Our battle is not against flesh and blood.  It is from the powers of this dark world. Notice it doesn't say 'if' the day of evil comes but 'when' the day of evil comes.  The bible also tells us to be alert for the devil is prowling around like a lion seeking whom he will devour (1Peter 5:8).

Oh Lord, thank you for continuing to teach me while we instruct these young ones.
